How you connect will depend on your computer. We are at 7dof.org on port 6715.
We have a Java client that you can use with a Web browser. It is quite simple but works fairly well.
You can download a client to use on your Windows computer. If you have a favourite then the webmaster would appreciate suggestions and reviews.
Two possible clients are zMUD and GMUD.
This client is an extremely old version, but it is free. Can be a bit unpredicable but generally works ok. It's not supported but you have the option of buying other newer versions. It's better to try out the free download before deciding on buying the latest client though. You can download this from http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmud/down.asp. Zuggsoft is now working on CMUD for Windows XP.
Gmud is a good, easy, telnet client to use. Has all the functions you need to mud but more experienced mudders may find it's options limited. To my knowledge, there is only one version of this and again it is free for download. It is available in many places but one possible source is http://www.uberworld.org/gmud.exe.
MUSHClient is supposedly the fastest and most configurable of all MUD clients, and is easy enough for Jaakan to use.
You can also use the telnet program supplied with Windows. Try the following:
The telnet clients are not very good. For example, some users find that they cannot see what they type when playing, even though the commands are being followed.
Enable local echo in your telnet program by clicking on Edit, Preferences, Enable local echo.
On a console or in an xterm window simply type:
There are also many clients available. Nalal and Major use Sclient under Linux.
As a new convert to Linux, Jaakan did manage to install SClient and use it - if you've got a modicum of ability with the command line interface, you'll be fine - It looks and feels very similar to GMUD under windows and has a lot of options.
If you're using Ubuntu, providing that you've got the Universe and Multiverse repositories enabled, you should be able to find Papaya, which (for Jaakan) installed flawlessly using synaptic package manager, and looks good too. Not as much in the way of options, though.
If you use another operating system then you must find your own way of connecting by telnet to port 6715 at 7dof.org or use a MUD client for your operating system.
If you do have such an operating system, please let the Webmaster know so that instructions can be added here.
